Meet the Doctor

Dr. Evan Johnson

Education

After graduating from Cave Spring High School in 2002, Dr. Johnson attended the University of Virginia, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Economics with Distinction. He then returned to Lexington, Kentucky (where he was born) where he graduated ranked #1 in his class with a Doctorate of Dental Medicine (DMD) from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry.

During his time in dental school, he received numerous awards, such as induction into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon and Alpha Omega National dental honor societies. Following dental school, he earned his Master of Science (MS) in oral biology and completed a three-year orthodontic residency at the University of Maryland.

In The Practice

Dr. J strives to make orthodontic treatment fun and exciting in a relaxing and state-of-the art environment. He strongly values the smile you work on together, since it will be the one you share with the world for the rest of your life.  He encourages you to be engaged in your treatment, to pay close attention to your developing smile, and to ask questions along the way!  He doesn't like surprises and will make sure you're comfortable with the goals you decide on together and treatment process before you're committed to anything!

The practice of orthodontics is constantly evolving.  Dr. J stays on top of the current literature while at the same time appreciating where orthodontics has come from. He enjoys working closely with all dental specialists, including your general dentist, to obtain the beautiful smile you deserve in a timely manner.

Dr. J’s goal is not only to give you straight teeth and a beautiful smile, but to choose the right plan with you to maximize your facial aesthetics in the short term and as you age! You’ll find that he’ll talk to you about such things as the soft-tissue laser to augment your gum tissue symmetry or to uncover impacted teeth that once required a visit to the oral surgeon.  He's even able to treat difficult cases that once required extractions or even jaw surgery with Invisalign or mini-implants/TADs and other techniques!

In addition to attending courses and seminars, and lecturing locally, Dr. J is also a member of the following organizations:

American Dental Association
American Association of Orthodontists
Southeast Association of Orthodontics
Virginia Association of Orthodontists
Virginia Dental Association
Roanoke Valley Dental Society
Roanoke Valley Orthodontic Society

Family Life

He has been married to Amanda Johnson, a local dentist, since 2008. They have three children: Cooper, Camryn, and Connor. Having grown up in Roanoke, giving back to the community is extremely important.  Dr. J knows he wouldn't be where he is without the support system he had growing up and looks forward to being a part of that support system moving forward!
